The ‘ILM Mentoring Scheme’ promotes a spectrum of emerging artists from different genres to new audiences, by giving them and the small independent labels which release them a focused platform at ILM UK events. The scheme launched in 2016 (supported by the Arts Council England) collaborating with a group of four independent music labels helping them in developing their presence and the presence of their artists within the industry.
Independent Label Market (ILM) provided these labels with premium billing at UK events, funding for operational costs, promotional opportunities in our programme, press coverage and marketing opportunities and two days of workshops with industry experts such as AIM, PRS, PPL, Transgressive Records and Secretly Canadian.
“Our main expectation was to get better insight into key areas, i.e. music supervision, revenue collection and legal which were certainly all covered in detail. It was fantastic to meet the people behind the jobs as well. They were all very open and easy to talk to and it’s good to know that we now have a contact person for the future.” Squareglass, supported label in 2018/19
In 2021 we will keep working with Clue Records, and we are welcoming Sad Club Records in the scheme to help support a cohort of artists producing exciting work that experiments with new techniques and blurs the boundaries between art, performance and music.
